Power Electronics and Energy Conversion Systems
Power electronics is shifting from being an enabling technology to a strategic constraint on electrification. Every megawatt delivered to an EV charging network, data center, or grid-scale storage facility passes through a network of inverters, converters, and transformers before reaching its destination. With accelerating power demands, the availability and performance of these systems are becoming pivotal. Data centers alone are expected to draw around 945 TWh of electricity by the end of this decade. That’s twice their demand in 2024, which is adding unprecedented pressure on power conversion infrastructure.
But the challenge now extends beyond rising demand. High-voltage DC architectures are now becoming a part of hyperscale data centers and industrial facilities due to their critical role in efficiency improvement. On the other hand, inverter-based resources and bidirectional microgrids are structurally altering how power systems operate.
Additionally, global investments in HVDC transmissions are increasing dependence on converter stations and large-sized power transformers, even when critical assets age, and equipment lead times keep lengthening. Together, these shifts are raising expectations for power electronics while placing new constraints across supply chains, grids and manufacturing capacities.
Another layer of complexity is added by higher power densities. The challenge is no longer limited to improving conversion efficiency, but ensuring that next-generation platforms remain commercially competitive, scalable, and manufacturable.
Stellarix is helping semiconductor companies, industry technology producers, and equipment manufacturers in evaluating emerging power electronics technologies and decoding them into pragmatic product and investment strategies.
Our Experience:
- A leading industrial manufacturer was looking to align its technological investments with evolving market dynamics. To help them, our team delivered a phased silicon carbide adoption roadmap by sequencing 20+ product platforms against a commercial payback threshold and switching-loss economics.
- Evaluated manufacturing expansion alternatives and long-term supply strategies for a transmission equipment manufacturer to strengthen their delivery assurance amid extended transformer lead times.
- For a power semiconductor company, we mapped the global gallium nitride IP and startup landscape and helped them identify strategic opportunities associated with next-gen data center power frameworks.
