Interoperable Data Exchange
Healthcare data is becoming more connected, but connectivity alone does not make information useful. The bigger challenge is getting data to move reliably across systems of patients, providers, care settings, payors, and regulators without creating layers of integration complexity.
Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) is a significant milestone in enabling data interoperability. National digital-health programs of various countries are moving away from fragmented legacy interfaces toward more open, standards-based architectures. The European Health Data Space is adding further momentum, making interoperable health-data exchange an increasingly important requirement across the EU.
The transition is not always delivering the expected results. In many organizations, FHIR adoption is still being approached primarily as a compliance exercise. Production environments can tell a different story, exposing data-quality and conformance issues that are difficult to see during implementation. Legacy migration can create another problem when it is treated simply as an interface replacement. The underlying data architecture, system dependencies, and future exchange requirements can easily get overlooked.
That leaves organizations with systems that technically support interoperability but do not necessarily improve how information is accessed or used. Better care coordination, faster data exchange, and more effective analytics depend on what sits behind the standard: the architecture, migration sequence, data quality, and governance.
Stellarix works with health systems, public authorities, and health-IT providers to build interoperability strategies around these practical requirements. Our work covers FHIR migration, legacy-system transition, data-architecture planning, conformance assessment, and standards intelligence. We help clients determine where to modernize, what to validate, and how to build an interoperability roadmap that supports both current requirements and future healthcare data models.
Our Experience:
- Helped a medical technology company to understand and build a transition roadmap to move them from legacy interfaces to a FHIR-based architecture, incorporating European Health Data Space requirements into their technology plan.
- Reviewed FHIR-based exchange architectures and conformance approaches for a digital-health platform, identifying the standards, integration requirements, and tooling needed to move beyond legacy interfaces.
