IP Landscape- Lipid Nanoparticles for Biomolecules Delivery
A global pharmaceutical leader partnered with Stellarix to gain strategic insights into lipid nanoparticle (LNP) systems for biomolecule delivery. With LNPs emerging as a critical platform for mRNA, siRNA, and CRISPR-based therapeutics, recognized and regulated by the FDA—our case study mapped key components, formulation strategies, and advanced manufacturing practices.
Client Background:
The client is a leading global pharmaceutical and biotechnology company.
Engagement Objective:
The objective of this study was to conduct an IP landscape study to provide a detailed overview of lipid nano-particle-based delivery systems for the delivery of biomolecules. The following aspects will be covered in this study:
- Identification of various lipid nanoparticles and their components (different ionizable/cationic lipids and PEGylated lipids) for delivery of mRNA, RNA, or DNA.
- Identification of various LNP compositions such as the mixture of different types of lipids and ratios, particle size, etc.
- Identification of various methods of manufacturing LNP such as the use of microfluidics, microfluidic chips, micro-flow path design, instrument parameters, and other methods/instruments
- Identification of whitespaces in the various technical aspect such as LNP/liposome composition, different lipid types used in LNP/liposomes, methods of manufacturing, etc.
- Identification of top players in the domain of interest and their LNP based delivery systems.
Methodology:
- Conduct a review of academic and patent literature to identify key advancements in lipid nanocarriers for biomolecule delivery (mRNA, RNA, DNA)
- Analyze patents related to lipid nanocarriers to uncover innovations, trends, and gaps in technology.
- Identify startups and SMEs working on lipid nanoparticle delivery systems, assessing their technologies and potential for collaboration.
- Explore collaboration and in-licensing opportunities in lipid nanoparticle-based delivery, focusing on partnerships between industry and research institutions.
Client Impact:
- Identifying key startups and SMEs provides opportunities for strategic collaborations, accelerating innovation and expanding market reach in lipid nanoparticle-based delivery systems.
- Accessing cutting-edge patent and literature insights helps maintain a competitive edge by adopting advanced lipid nanoparticle technologies for biomolecule delivery.
- Identifying licensing opportunities and collaborations with research institutions enables expansion into new markets, enhancing product offerings and commercialization potential.
